What is one word that describes you perfectly?
What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You were given a voice so use it. Others may not agree with you but that’s ok. Make sure you take time for yourself. You need to be able to rest, regroup and reset often so you don’t burn yourself out. Been there before and it’s no fun. And most importantly stand out!! You’re not meant to follow the crowd – make sure you shine!!
What makes you happy?
My children – Laseante’ Ivory, TaShaila, Tino, Nathaniel and D’Angelo – make me happy. I love seeing them grow and succeed in life!! My husband and my mother make me happy for always being there for me, encouraging me, and helping me through difficult times. Being around my family and friends, having BBQs, and enjoying the sunshine also makes me happy.
How do you measure success?
I measure success by overcoming obstacles in my life that were set to hold me back. I have been through a lot in life that could have destroyed me but I didn’t let that happen. Instead, I used those obstacles as motivation. My success is to continue to be a better version of myself and to keep achieving my goals.
What historical event inspires you the most?
The Civil Rights Movement. People stood up for what they believed in and let their voices be heard.
What is your favorite quote and why?
“A closed mouth doesn’t get fed”
I heard this a lot growing up. This is a reminder to myself that you have to speak up and ask for what you want or need.
