Our September Harman Center Volunteer of the Month is Jo Miles. Jo is from Richland, WA but has lived in Yakima for 14 years. He is married with 4 children and 9 grandchildren. He is a retired Public Works and Parks & Recreation Director. He is a history lover and competitive for community pride. He has published a book, “Kamiakin Country: Washington Territory in Turmoil, 1855-1858,” as well as many other journal articles. He received the John McClelland Jr. Award, which recognizes the best article published in Columbia Magazine. He enjoys wilderness backpacking and hiking.

Jo started volunteer for the City of Yakima and the Harman Center in July 2020. He used to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission Board. He has a passion for keeping parks, pools, and senior centers in the best condition possible. Come on down to the Harman Center and meet Jo as well as some of our other Volunteer All-Stars.
