Parent-to-Parent Academy at Washington Middle School is very Successful!

For a second consecutive year, Washington Middle School is offering a four-week Parent-to-Parent Academy.  A Washington Spanish-speaking parent (translation is available in English) leads the class that parents and their families attend once a week to learn about our school, issues that affect their children, and strategies on how to address them. Each week there is a new focus that involves School Staff and Community resources and support information. These are the titles for each week:

Week 1: Introductions and Community Resources (School Contacts, Clubs, Food Services, Library and Homework Center hours)

Week 2: Understanding Academic Standards and Your Student’s Academic Profile (Helping parents load the YSD app on their phone, see grades on Skyward, understand State test results)

Week 3: How to Keep Your Student Safe on the Internet and Help Your Student at Home with Homework (Presentation by Security Staff and Web Resources)

Week 4: The Road to High School and College (Presentation by College Bound Staff and Counselors)

121 families have attended the Parent-to-Parent Academy in September. Wednesday will be the last session, and sign-ups will begin for the following program- “Strengthening Families,” beginning in October.
