October 2021 Volunteer of the Month

Ruth Hayward is our October Harman Center Volunteer of the Month. She is originally from Missouri but moved here when she was 4 years old. Her father worked the fruit harvest, worked in the fruit warehouses, owned a fruit stand and an orchard in Naches. She has 4 children (2 boys and 2 girls), 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was a wife, mother, homemaker, and took care of children for 61 years in her home. She has always been active in her church and has helped put on many functions, camps, and block parties.  She enjoys taking care of her great grandchildren and doing things with her family. She said “it is important to her to always keep herself presentable.” And she looks beautiful every day she comes into the Center.

Ruth began volunteering at the Harman Center 3 years ago. Her children told her to come up for Soup & Sandwich and so she did. When she came up for lunch, one of our other Volunteers, Nancy Taylor, talked to her about working the coffee bar, then introduced her to Virginia Christopher. Virginia was happy for Ruth to join the Coffee Bar team and scheduled her to train at the Coffee Bar quickly thereafter. Ruth has been a phenomenal volunteer at the Coffee Bar ever since! So, come on down to the Harman Center and have a cup of joe with Ruth or any of our other Volunteer All-Stars.
