From November 1st to December 20th, YSD multilingual students will be invited to participate in the district’s Minutes 4 Meals campaign. In this campaign, students will be able to do their schoolwork and donate to local charity at the same time.
In Yakima School District, multilingual students have access to Imagine Language and Literacy, an award-winning, online computer program designed to help students gain mastery and confidence in speaking and reading English. During these 6 weeks, every time a student logs in, their time will be matched by a donation to YWCA Yakima – the largest provider of domestic violence services in Yakima County. Last year, 2020, YWCA Yakima assisted over 14,000 people with programs and services, including offering the first affordable housing specific to families who are homeless as a result of domestic violence.
For every 240 minutes students spend on Imagine Language & Literacy, Imagine Learning will donate 1 meal to YWCA Yakima. As we enter the holiday season, this will be an exciting opportunity for students to give back in a meaningful way to their community.
