Jeronimo Martinez from WAMS Featured in CWU GameOn Video

GAME ON! combines the excitement of World Cup soccer and the secret language of computer coding to create a unique opportunity for middle- and high school students.

Washington’s 7th-grade student, Jeronimo Martinez, participates in GAME ON! and is featured in CWU’s informational video. See the video.

The Real Madrid Foundation, Microsoft Corporation, Central Washington University, and the Yakima School District are partners in this unique after-school venture that teaches leadership, social and digital literacy, and college-ready skills.

School district employees and volunteers learn youth coaching techniques from Spanish Real Madrid Foundation coaches, who visit central Washington each fall. Microsoft shares a unique way of teaching coding that reaches students of any age and any skill level.

CWU staff and students mentor coaches and students, and coordinate Game On! meetings twice a week. Students learn to code for an hour and sharpen their soccer skills for 90 minutes. CWU sponsors visit to the university campus to welcome students into a friendly educational future.

There’s no cost to students to participate. They just have to sign up and be part of the team!
